Power Tool Test & Repair Technician

Milton Keynes

£14.50–£15.00 per hour

Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Overview

Join our busy workshop team and apply your mechanical or electrical repair experience to inspect, diagnose, service and repair a wide range of power tools. You will deliver high‑quality, safe and compliant repairs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspection & Diagnosis
    • Assess customer‑returned, warranty and in‑house tools for faults and damage.
    • Carry out visual inspections and operational testing.
    • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, battery and charger faults.
    • Identify warranty eligibility where applicable.
    • Accurately document findings and repair recommendations.
  • Repair & Maintenance
    • Repair tools such as drills, saws, grinders, sanders, breakers, nail guns and pressure washers.
    • Replace defective components (motors, switches, bearings, brushes, gearboxes, batteries, chargers).
    • Perform servicing and preventive maintenance.
    • Rebuild and refurbish tools when economically viable.
    • Ensure all repairs meet manufacturer specifications.
  • Testing & Quality Assurance
    • Conduct electrical safety checks and PAT testing.
    • Verify safety features including guards, switches and triggers.
    • Complete final inspections and sign‑off documentation.
    • Ensure tools meet safety and performance standards before release.
  • Stock & Parts Management
    • Identify and request spare parts and consumables.
    • Maintain accurate records of parts used and repair costs.
    • Support workshop stock control and inventory management.
    • Liaise with suppliers for parts and technical support.
  • Health & Safety
    • Follow all health and safety regulations and workshop procedures.
    • Work in line with COSHH, PUWER, LOLER and electrical safety standards.
    • Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop.
    • Use PPE and workshop equipment correctly.

Qualifications

  • Experience repairing power tools, electrical equipment or mechanical systems.
  • Good fault‑finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Basic understanding of electrical safety and testing procedures.
  • PAT testing experience advantageous but not essential.
