Grade 5, 21.25 hours, 39 weeks (38 term time + 1 week during holidays)

£10, 741 (Actual)

Working pattern: Monday – 8:30am-1:00pm, Tuesday-Thursday 8:30am-12:00pm and Friday 8:30am-3:15pm

A Learning Support Assistant will work under the direct supervision of a teacher to provide support for teaching and learning and associated activities in accordance with school policies and procedures. This will include supporting individuals on a 1:1 basis and providing general support for whole class learning activities or supporting small groups of pupils. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing general classroom and specific support to our SEN pupils.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • A good communicator, both verbally and in writing.

  • Has experience of working with children.
  • Has a good level of literacy and numeracy.
  • Is patient, engaging, caring and creative.

  • Is self‑motivated.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality and follow safeguarding procedures at all times.
  • Provide agreed support to the teacher in the delivery of planned whole class learning activities.
  • Work under the direct supervision of a teacher to carry out planned learning activities with individual pupils or small groups, providing feedback on their engagement and achievement of the desired learning objectives.
  • Help prepare, monitor and maintain a safe and secure learning environment in line with the teacher’s lesson plans.
  • Observe and provide feedback to the teacher on pupil performance and behaviour, taking action as appropriate in line with relevant school policies.
  • Support the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development of pupils, including contributing ideas and suggestions to support planning, to meet their development needs.
  • Interact with and respond positively to children, young people and adults.
  • Develop positive relationships with colleagues, providing consistent and effective support and working constructively as a member of the school staff team.
  • Support pupils to improve their numeracy and literacy skills through focused learning activities and more generally across the curriculum.
  • Prepare and utilise ICT resources to support pupils learning.

Essential Qualifications

  • NVQ 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent or able to demonstrate the ability to meet the STL Level 2 National Occupational Standards relevant to this post.
