Job Description:

We’re looking for a caring and committed Residential Support Worker to join our Residential Short Breaks Service at Furze House, supporting children with complex needs in a safe, nurturing, and fun environment.

Shift Pattern

  • Week 1: Wednesday morning, Thursday afternoon and Friday morning
  • Week 2: Tuesday morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning
  • Morning shifts: 7am – 2pm
  • Afternoon shifts: 2:30pm – 9:30pm

Responsibilities

  • Providing safe, nurturing, and consistent care to children and young people with special needs.
  • Supporting children with personal care, daily routines, and activities, in line with individual care plans.
  • Promoting independence, choice, and inclusion for every child.
  • Working closely with families and carers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Contributing to a positive, stable, and welcoming environment at Furze House.
  • Recording and sharing information accurately to support each child’s wellbeing.
  • Working as part of a rota, including evenings, weekends, and sleep‑ins, to meet service needs.
  • Following Milton Keynes City Council policies and procedures at all times.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience of working with children or young people, particularly those with additional or complex needs, or a strong willingness to learn.
  • A calm and compassionate approach, even in challenging situations.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to keeping children safe.
  • The ability to work as part of a team and use one’s own initiative when needed.
  • Flexibility to work shifts as part of a residential service.

Driving Requirements

Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are required. Evidence of the licence and valid vehicle insurance covering business use will be required prior to appointment.
