Support Worker

Location: Wallsend

Starting salary £12.21 per hour, rising to £12.41 after successful completion of 6 months’ probation.

Real living wage employer after length of service milestone.

Our North Tyneside services assist clients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We require enthusiastic, caring individuals to take them out on day trips to the beach, restaurants or the cinema. Shifts include days, nights and sleep overs.

As a Support Worker you will provide high quality care and support to enable clients to live their best life. You will be passionate about making a difference, helping them fulfil their aspirations and ambitions.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Prepare person‑centred support plans with clients, reflecting their views and aspirations and respecting their beliefs and opinions, reviewing and amending them as necessary.
  • Support clients to fulfil their aspirations and live as independently as possible, including accompanying them on social visits and events, supporting interests and hobbies, promoting choice, arranging activities and outings, and developing their skills and knowledge.
  • Communicate openly and transparently with clients and team members, acting with integrity and keeping promises. Support quality inspection processes and cooperate with on‑site inspectors on information requests.
  • Provide personal care respecting client choices and dignity, including washing, bathing, toileting and continence.
  • Keep accurate records, including daily notes, and work in accordance with Health and Safety requirements such as Manual Handling, Food Hygiene, Fire Safety, infection control and Risk Assessment procedures. Carry out household duties required by the client including cooking, cleaning, laundry and other domestic duties.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate level of care and support to clients in accordance with their care plan, including personal care.
  • Maintain accurate written and numerical records.
  • Perform a wide range of personal care and domestic duties specific to each service.
  • Carry out the physical requirements of the role, including climbing stairs, using hoists, pushing wheelchairs, moving people and night work. Adjustments will be considered where criteria cannot be met due to disability.
  • Use computer packages such as Word, Outlook and the Internet and undertake relevant care training and qualification if required.
  • Work cooperatively as a team member.
  • Liaise and communicate effectively with carers, families, inspectors and other external stakeholders.
  • Hold a UK driving licence.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Care Certificate or required to undertake Care Certificate.

Desirable criteria

  • Current driver licence.
