Purpose
The Manchester United Foundation works in disadvantaged areas, bringing Manchester United to the heart of the community.
The Street Reds project uses football to give young people the opportunity to pursue their interest in playing, leading, and coaching, and supports participation in educational and diversionary activities.
These free sessions are aimed at children aged 8‑18 and promote inclusivity, regular physical activity, and a sense of belonging. They develop soft skills, increase social mobility through inter‑project tournaments, employment, and volunteer opportunities.
The main responsibility of this role is to support the delivery of the Street Reds community programme through football coaching and youth engagement activities on evening projects.
Role
- Deliver high‑quality football coaching in line with the Manchester United Foundation values and the Street Reds curriculum.
- Deliver or support a curriculum of social‑education workshops designed to improve participants’ confidence, employability, and personal development through football.
- Create a fun and safe Street Reds environment that inspires, challenges, and educates.
- Attend staff training and CPD as required.
- Uphold the Foundation’s code of conduct in all activities, delivery and appearance.
- Uphold the Foundation’s Safeguarding policy and guidelines to ensure all young people are safe and looked after.
- Maintain required qualifications, including an FA Coaches license and other necessary qualifications.
- Apply risk assessment procedures for each venue, including Covid‑safety guidelines.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties consistent with the role’s purpose and level of responsibility, including working at alternative venues.
- Support the Head Coach in ensuring all sessions remain high quality and that suitable duties are performed on the night.
- Assist the Head Coach in registering young people, ensuring compliance with the Foundation consenting procedures.
- Help collate case‑study information for termly reporting to funders when required.
- Complete reasonable tasks as requested by the project coordinator and/or department manager.
- Work as a casual role; hours of work are from 5 pm onwards and vary with assigned location.
Person
Education and Qualifications
- Minimum FA Level 1 coaching qualification (or equivalent)
- First Aid qualification
- Safeguarding qualification
- Full clean UK driving licence – desirable
- Youth work qualification – desirable
Experience
- Experience (paid or volunteering) with children and young people, preferably within a charitable, school or sporting environment.
- Experience in positively engaging with young people in educational, sporting or youth work settings.
- Experience and confidence working with disengaged young people.
- Experience managing confrontation and conflict – desirable.
