Position Details

Location: Blackpool, Lancashire

Job Type: Full-time, Long-term (Academic Year Placement)

Start Date: September 2026

Are you an experienced Level 3 Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, or Youth Worker looking for a highly rewarding role where you can truly transform a young person’s educational journey?

We are looking for a resilient, highly empathetic, and qualified (or thoroughly experienced equivalent) SEMH Teaching Assistant to support secondary-aged students within the Blackpool area for the upcoming 2026/27 academic year. This full-time role focuses on providing specialist nurture, emotional regulation, and academic support to vulnerable pupils facing barriers related to Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Role

In this role, you will work closely with the school’s pastoral team and SENDCo to support students who find the standard classroom environment overwhelming. You will be the steady, encouraging presence that helps them navigate their school day, manage emotional dysregulation, and build vital life skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Targeted Interventions: Deliver tailored 1:1 and small group sessions focused on emotional literacy, resilience, and self‑esteem.
  • De‑escalation Support: Implement positive behaviour strategies and trauma‑informed approaches to diffuse challenging moments and create a safe environment.
  • Academic Mentoring: Help students access a differentiated secondary curriculum, breaking down tasks to reduce frustration and anxiety.
  • Progress Tracking: Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour logs, providing vital feedback to class teachers and parents.

What We Are Looking For

  • Qualifications: A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or a relevant equivalent (e.g., a degree in Psychology, Youth & Community Work, or specialized Health and Social Care qualifications).
  • Experience: Proven track record supporting young people with complex SEMH needs, ADHD, ASD, or trauma‑related behaviours within a school, Alternative Provision (AP), Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), or residential care setting.
  • Traits: Thick‑skinned, endlessly patient, and equipped with a brilliant sense of humour. You are someone who looks past “disruptive behaviour” to see the child needing support.
  • Vetting: Must hold or be willing to apply for an Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service.

Benefits

  • Honest & Fair PAYE: Excellent daily rates paid weekly strictly via PAYE, with no umbrella companies or hidden fees.
  • Strict Framework Standards: Operate fully under GCA and STeER framework standards, ensuring total transparency and elite compliance.
  • Unlimited Free CPD: Complete access to over 2,500 certified courses via partnership with The National College, including modules such as Team Teach, Trauma‑Informed Practice, and Safeguarding.
  • Blackpool Expertise: Dedicated local consultant supporting you through your placement in the Fylde coast region.

How to Apply

If you have the stamina, heart, and experience to make a lasting impact on vulnerable youth across Blackpool starting this September, let’s get your placement locked in early. Call or email HR for a confidential professional chat.
