Facilities Support Services Assistant – Cleaning, Catering & Portering

We are hoping to recruit a staff member to join our Facilities Team at Forston Clinic and its associated sites such as Maiden Castle Road, 20 Trinity Street and Conifers and Junipers. This multiskilled role is working in a friendly hospital environment, helping with cleaning, catering and porter duties.

This is a part‑time role of 22.5 hours per week. The hours are flexible to cover service demands and staff leave: 7:30 am to 6:30 pm each day, depending on shift, up to a maximum of 22.5 hours per week. Opportunities to do more are available when shifts arise, to cover annual leave and sickness absence.

Any additional hours worked on a weekend attract an enhanced level of pay and you will receive a generous annual leave allowance.

Main duties of the job

  • Porter duties – receiving deliveries and supporting in unloading stores, linen and catering deliveries.
  • Cleaning duties – across the site, working to NHS cleaning standards. Weekly duties include supporting the cleaning of clinical areas, cleaning toilets, emptying bins and other duties required by the cleaning rota.
  • Catering duties – all onsite training will be provided. Basic catering duties such as making fresh sandwiches and salads, heating up meals for patients in heated trollies, and serving in the staff dining room.

A full UK driving licence is desired for this role as you may be required to use the hospital vehicle to deliver meals to a nearby site.

For all duties, full training, support and uniform will be provided, shadowing current experienced staff to enable the candidate to become confident in their role.

Employment in this post requires a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service may present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Person Specification

  • Additional Requirements – Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English to a standard which enables the post holder to carry out the full range of duties and responsibilities of the role effectively.
  • Experience – Previous experience in a similar role.
  • IT Skills – Basic IT skills.
  • Business Travel – Non‑essential car users who may exceptionally be required to travel on Trust business where such journeys could also reasonably be made by public transport.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Training – Good communication skills; able to prioritise workload; Level 2 basic food hygiene certificate or working towards; Level 2 housekeeping certificate or working towards.
