1:2 SEN Teaching Assistant | PR4 Primary School
Location: PR4 Area (Preston/Fylde local primary)
Contract: Temporary, Term-Time Only
Duration: September – December
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Pay: £92.56 – £95.00 per day
About the Role
Are you a nurturing and patient educator with a passion for Early Years development and communication support? A lovely, small, one-form-entry primary school in the PR4 area is seeking a dedicated, qualified SEN Teaching Assistant to provide vital 1:2 support for two children with verbal needs who will be joining the school family this September. This is a full-time, temporary contract running from September until December. It is a truly rewarding opportunity to play a pivotal role in these children’s early school journey, helping them settle in, feel safe, and develop their communication skills during a crucial transition period.
This school is easily accessible by Lytham, Kirkham, Warton, Freckleton, Ashton and Preston Docks.
Classroom Environment
Because this is a close-knit, local one-form-entry school, you will benefit from a highly supportive team structure. You will not be isolated; you will be working directly inside a classroom that already has both a full-time Class Teacher and a general Classroom Teaching Assistant present. This collaborative environment ensures you have the backing and resources needed to focus entirely on the progress and well‑being of the two children in your care.
Key Responsibilities & Skills Needed
- Support the development and on boarding of these two children.
- Have strong background working within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) or with pre‑verbal/non‑verbal children.
- Understand how early communication develops.
- Provide onboarding & transition support to help them navigate new routines, social interactions, and classroom expectations.
- Use physical cues, visual timetables, or basic communication aids to help them express their needs and engage with learning.
- Maintain a gentle, encouraging approach to build confidence and independence at their own pace.
Requirements
- A recognised Teaching Assistant Qualification (Level2 or Level3 Certificate/Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, or equivalent).
- Proven experience working with children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), or strong experience within an EYFS setting.
- Knowledge of how to support early communication and language development.
- Collaborative nature, ready to work closely with the Class Teacher and existing classroom TA.
- An Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
