Blenheim Estate is seeking a passionate and dedicated Estate Ranger to join our wider Game Team. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in the stewardship of one of the country’s most significant estates, helping to deliver conservation objectives while engaging with the local community and visitors.
The Estate Ranger will be primarily responsible for the control of pest species, particularly deer and squirrels, in accordance with Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier Scheme requirements. The role also provides support across the wider Game Team and requires a flexible approach to working patterns, including early mornings, evenings, and occasional night work to meet seasonal control and licensing obligations.
As well as practical countryside management, you will act as an ambassador for Blenheim Estate, sharing your enthusiasm for the natural environment and helping visitors understand the importance of responsible land management and conservation. This is a newly created role offering the chance to make a lasting impact on the estate’s landscapes, wildlife, and communities.
What we are looking for
We are looking for someone who can bring the right skills and mindset to the role. You might not meet all the criteria, and that’s okay, transferable skills and experience are highly valued.
- Demonstrable practical countryside or estate management experience.
- Valid UK firearms and shotgun certificate and proven safe handling and use of rifles/shotguns for wildlife management.
- Driving Licence and competent in operating 4x4s and UTVs in varied terrain.
- Strong practical skills in land management, basic carpentry, machinery use, and routine maintenance tasks.
- Ability to work independently, outdoors in all weather conditions, and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a responsible, professional approach.
Desirable skills
- Qualifications in Countryside Management, Forestry, Environmental Conservation, or related fields.
- Chainsaw certification (e.g., NPTC).
- Significant Experience in Deer Management e.g. DSC2.
- First Aid certification.
