Job Description
Looking for a career that blends software engineering with data science? Join our Data Science Engineering Degree Apprenticeship, which offers paid training, splitting your time between partner universities and hands‑on learning on the job.
This apprenticeship provides a competitive entry salary of £21,525 per year and supports your academic learning. You will have a dedicated Apprentice team at each site, opportunities to engage with local community and STEM projects, and a pathway to acquire practical skills and a BSc (Hons) in Data Science.
Key Responsibility Areas
- Commit to the successful completion of all academic modules and assignments to achieve the Data Scientist Apprenticeship Standard (ST0585), including a BSc (Hons) Data Science.
- Build expertise in data science and software engineering by rotating through different areas of the business and contributing to Integrated Project Teams.
- Develop practical skills in designing, building, and maintaining software solutions, focusing on data‑driven systems and complex applications.
- Gain a strong understanding of key software engineering principles, data science methodologies, and modern technologies used to process and analyse data.
- Support early‑careers initiatives, including opportunities to act as a STEM ambassador, engaging with schools, colleges and universities.
Qualifications and Entry Criteria
- 120 UCAS points, including Maths and at least one other STEM subject (3 B’s at A’ Level or equivalent).
- Five GCSE grades 9-4 / A* – C or equivalent, including Maths, English and a Science.
- Little or no professional engineering experience; not suitable for those with an engineering, software or computing degree.
- At least 3‑4 days a week on site to integrate with the team.

This role is subject to pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). Additional Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, including the Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
