Golborne Medical Centre is looking for a part-time Receptionist/Administrator to join our friendly team. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic and confident in dealing with members of the public in a calm and professional manner, whilst delivering excellent customer service.
Shifts are flexible: Morning (8:00 am–1:00 pm) and Afternoon (1:00 pm–6:30 pm). This can be agreed.
Main duties of the job
- Welcoming all patients and visitors to the surgery
- Dealing with enquiries from patients and external agencies in person and over the telephone.
- Processing prescription requests.
- Signposting patients to the correct service.

We are a long‑established GP practice with approximately 5,400 patients.
The team consists of:
- 4 GP Partners
- 1 Practice Manager
- 1 Secretary
- 2 Health Care Assistants
Job responsibilities
- Making appointments
- Prescription requests
- Giving out results where appropriate
- Ambulance transport bookings
- Deal with home visit requests
- Deal with general enquiries
- Contacting other providers
- Register new patients and temporary residents
- Greet and direct patients and visitors
- Book appointments
- Hand out prescriptions
- Ensure outstanding queries are explained and handed over to the next shift, as necessary
- Respond to needs of our clinical team during surgery
- Collect fees from patients for non‑NHS services
- Deal with general enquiries and complaints
- File medical notes
- Deal with requests for repeat prescriptions
- Raise prescriptions as per Practice protocols
- Deal with queries relating to repeat prescriptions
- Input and extract information from Practice computer system
- Observe health and safety guidelines at all times
- General housekeeping (e.g., keeping reception and waiting areas tidy)
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Participate and continue personal development
- Observe equality & diversity guidelines at all times
- Treat all patients, colleagues and visitors with dignity and respect at all times
- Any other reasonable duties as necessary

Experience
- Experience of working within an NHS reception/administration team
- Experience of dealing with the general public (face to face and over the telephone)
- Excellent telephone manner
- Confident with GP IT systems
- Experience of working within NHS / GP surgery
- Experience of working with clinical systems

Working Hours
- Must be able to work morning and/or afternoon shifts: Morning shifts 8:00 am–1:00 pm, Afternoon shifts 1:00 pm–6:30 pm. Some flexibility may be available within these hours.
- Flexibility to provide additional cover for staff sickness or annual leave when needed.
