Locum Consultant Psychiatrist CYP Community Eating Disorders

Employment: Full‑time 10 PA, 12‑month fixed‑term
This is a fixed‑term locum post for a CAMHS Consultant psychiatrist within the CYP Community Eating Disorders Team, working alongside a specialist multidisciplinary team. The team offers a supportive environment and a manageable, stimulating workload.
The post includes 1 PA for a Clinical Academic role, creating opportunities to coordinate research work, support best practice and teaching, and work on quality improvement. The successful applicant may choose to use a further 1 SPA out of their general 2.5 SPA entitlement for clinical academic work.

Main Duties
- Provide clinical leadership within the CYP Community and ICT teams.
- Consultant responsibility for patient care within the service.
- Consultation to the multidisciplinary team regarding urgent assessments and risk management.
- Diagnose patients with an ICD‑10 code at assessment and ensure documentation and mandatory data recording.
- Participate in weekly referrals, assessments and MDT meetings, providing leadership, supervision and consultation.
- Work with therapists and colleagues to manage flow of referrals, assessments and waiting lists.
- Provide comprehensive initial assessments for complex clients.
- Provide psychiatric review and management of CYP ED patients.
- Develop and review protocols with local paediatric services.
- Provide responsible clinician cover for paediatric wards.
- Access Tier‑4 provision and review inpatient care for young people.
- Develop and sustain good working relationships and effective MEED pathways with Paediatrics.
- Contribute to CPA meetings as appropriate.
- Contribute to MHA assessments as appropriate.
- Support the maintenance of a psychologically minded clinic culture.
- Attend staff groups, CPD sessions and consultant meetings regularly.
- Manage and provide training and psychiatric case‑work supervision for trainees seeking special interest sessions.
- Provide cross‑cover for colleague psychiatry in the eating disorder service.
- Be an active member of the senior management team.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues in developing the service, new models of care and best practice.
- Participate in clinical protocol development.
- Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date clinical records.
- Administer patient information systems and ensure data entry aligns with service policies.
- Collect and monitor clinical outcome data across the service.
- Liaise with statutory and non‑statutory agencies regarding patient treatment and management.
- Ensure discharges follow service policies and guidance.
- Complete serious incident reports as required.
- Work in accordance with service policies and guidelines.
- Maintain up‑to‑date CPD.
Research and audit responsibilities:
- Lead or contribute to research, audit, and service evaluation projects across the Community CYP‑ED service.
- Support the systematic collection, monitoring, and interpretation of clinical outcome measures and service data.
- Promote and integrate evidence‑based practice across multidisciplinary teams.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, clinical governance, and service evaluations.
- Provide teaching, supervision and training to medical students, trainees, and colleagues; collaborate with academic institutions and partner agencies.
Person Specification
Education, Qualifications and Training
- Primary medical degree.
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
- Section 12 MHA Approved Clinician status.
- Additional postgraduate qualification relevant to specialty.
- Inclusion on the Child and Adolescent Specialist Register (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview).
Experience, Skills and Abilities
- Experience and skills in eating disorders in young people.
- Excellent communication and empathetic skills.
- Demonstrable leadership skills.
- Experience of team working.
- Sound organisational skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative.
