Band 7 MSK Lead Podiatrist
We are looking for an experienced podiatrist to support our local Penge primary care network. The role includes 20% community podiatry clinical caseload and 80% GP practice work. First contact practitioner qualification is essential.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment plans for a high‑risk caseload including diabetic and ischaemic foot ulceration.
- Deliver community podiatry services and support GP practice within the network.
- Provide specialist primary care podiatry care, including minor surgical procedures, orthoses fabrication, local analgesia injections, and steroid injections.
- Educate patients, clinical staff and GP surgery team; develop and present case discussions and research at team and MDT meetings.
- Maintain care quality, audit and research participation to advance clinical practice.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., KCH orthopaedics, child physiotherapy services, Vita Health).
- Travel across GP surgeries and provide direct podiatry intervention in the community podiatry service.
Person Specification
Professional Registration
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Training & CPD
- Evidence of ongoing CPD and a CPD portfolio.
Experience
- Post‑graduate experience treating high‑risk podiatry cases, including wound care and diabetic foot.
- Full patient assessment (medical history, vascular, neuropathic) and formulation of diagnosis & treatment plans.
- Minor surgical procedures, biomechanics (diagnosis, orthoses, muscle‑balancing programmes).
- Local analgesia injection skills (dose calculation, contraindications).
- Experience in administering steroid injections.
- Experience working within specialist podiatry areas such as podiatric surgery, diabetes, and R.A.
- Training in clinical coaching and health education.
Skills
- Clinical assessment, documentation and evaluation of care plans using a holistic approach.
- Organisation of own caseload with high‑risk patients.
- Excellent verbal and written communication with patients and health‑care professionals.
- Use of specialist diagnostic & therapeutic equipment (doppler ultrasound, neuro‑sthesiometer, gait analysis).
- Manual dexterity, hand‑eye coordination, keyboard activity.
- Full UK driver’s licence and access to a car for travel.
- MSK and wound‑care knowledge.
- Contribution to audit, research or evaluation.
- Advanced MSK diagnostic skills (advanced assessment techniques, sonography).
Qualifications
- Diploma/degree in podiatry and/or postgraduate qualification (PGCert/Dip or MSc).
- IRMER certificate, POMs certificate.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
- Awareness of current NHS changes.
Remuneration
Salary is determined by NHS experience and current banding/pay point. External applicants will begin at the entry point of the salary scale in line with NHS terms and conditions.
