Head of History – Permanent Full‑time

Location: Borough of Hillingdon. Start: September 2026.

We are seeking a Head of History to lead a large History Department across KS3–5 (GCSE & A Level). The role includes curriculum development, team management and driving attainment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a large team of History teachers including trainees, early career teachers and experienced staff.
• Set and monitor curriculum priorities for KS3‑5, ensuring high standards and alignment with national expectations.
• Manage a diverse range of personalities and foster a collaborative, high‑performing culture.
• Represent the History department within the wider school leadership team.
• Support teachers through CPD, coaching and workload planning.

Person Specification

• UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) required.
• Strong understanding of the History curriculum and assessment requirements.
• Experience managing a team of teachers and driving professional development.
• Excellent communication, motivational and leadership skills.
• Ability to motivate, inspire and raise attainment across the department.
• Outstanding expectations for yourself and fellow teachers.

Contract and Remuneration

• Permanent full‑time contract.
• Salary band MPS3 – UPS3 + TLR1b.
