Role Summary

Morecambe Net Zero (MNZ) is one of the UK’s most ambitious decarbonisation projects, transforming depleted gas fields in the East Irish Sea into a world‑class carbon storage hub. By safely capturing, transporting and permanently storing CO₂ from heavy industry, MNZ will play a vital role in helping the UK achieve its net zero targets while supporting thousands of skilled jobs across the country.

Position: Reservoir Engineer (1‑year contract)

Location: Aberdeen

Please provide a PAYE day rate banding expectation, right to work in the UK, and notice period or availability to start.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and operate the carbon storage reservoir simulation model.
  • Containment Risk Assessment updates.
  • Preparation of the carbon storage development plan.
  • Preparation of the monitoring plan.
  • Preparation of the corrective measure plan.
  • Post‑closure planning including decommissioning, post‑closure monitoring and handover plan.
  • Manage the interface with supply chain partners for specialist technical inputs and studies (e.g., microbial, fault seal).
  • Support the subsurface work programme(s) and ensure that the company meets its NSTA carbon storage licence commitments and deadlines, while remaining aligned with the priorities and constraints of the business.
  • Support work to successfully secure a carbon storage permit aligned with the requirements of the MNZ project portfolio.
  • Maintain technical alignment with wells, above ground and commercial aspects of the proposed development.
  • Promote Spirit Energy with stakeholders, including at conferences and events, to build awareness and confidence in technical competence of the business.
  • Any other associated duties as reasonably required.

About You

  • Deep subsurface technical subject matter expertise in reservoir engineering pertaining to carbon storage development.
  • A recognised and trusted industry expert.
  • Good understanding of the UK carbon storage regulatory regime including licensing, work programme fulfilment and permit application and award.
  • Educated to degree level, ideally MSc or MEng in a relevant discipline such as Engineering or Earth Science.
