Finance Systems Team Leader

Lead the delivery of high‑quality support for Wirral Council’s finance systems, ensuring system availability, performance and continuous improvement. Contribute to the development and implementation of ICT and system strategies, lead technical projects, and translate business requirements into effective system solutions.

Responsibilities

• Manage and develop a specialist finance systems support team.
• Oversee system configuration, maintenance and enhancement, acting as the key escalation point for complex issues.
• Collaborate with Finance colleagues and wider directorates to support reporting, data integrity and decision‑making.
• Develop robust reporting solutions such as Power BI while ensuring compliance with corporate standards, information governance and service‑level expectations.
• Lead the development and automation of processes, ensuring efficient, modern solutions that meet business needs.
• Provide expert support on complex system issues and manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Foster a collaborative, innovative and solutions‑focused team culture while working independently.

Qualifications

• Experienced, motivated and customer‑focused professional with a strong understanding of finance processes and financial systems.
• Knowledge of core financial operations, data structures and system controls, enabling effective support of system users and contribution to system improvements.
• Experience working with enterprise finance systems and the ability to translate financial requirements into technical solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a high‑performing team and manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong communication skills and a proven track record of translating business requirements into effective system solutions.
