VolkerRail is a leading multidisciplinary railway infrastructure contractor which comprises of two businesses: Major Projects and Specialist Businesses.

Major Projects is an expert in collaborative working, leading on large, multidisciplinary joint venture and alliance projects.

Specialist Businesses is made up of expert divisions in signalling, track, power, electrification, and piling, and has an in‑house plant division and bespoke design teams.

Our Head office is based in J3 Business Park, Doncaster and provides support to the businesses in the following areas: Finance and Payroll, Human Resources, HSQES, Work Winning, Procurement and Fleet.

We have a great opportunity for a Senior HR Business Partner to lead our HR partnering approach and drive measurable impact across leadership capability, talent, and organisational effectiveness.

Working closely with the Head of HR, you’ll shape and deliver people strategies that strengthen performance, build robust talent pipelines, and support business growth. You’ll also lead and develop the HR Business Partnering team, setting the standard for high‑impact, commercial HR support.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, influencing people, performance, and organisational strategy
  • Lead and develop the HR Business Partnering team, building capability and delivering high‑impact support to the business
  • Drive initiatives to enhance leadership capability, strengthen performance and accountability, and support a high‑performance culture
  • Lead organisational change and workforce planning initiatives
  • Embed a high‑performance, values‑led culture

About you

  • Proven experience in a Senior HR Business Partner role
  • Strong track record in talent, succession, and leadership development
  • Confident influencing and challenging senior stakeholders
  • Effective ability to translate business strategy into clear, outcome‑driven people plans
  • Skilled in using data and insight to inform decisions and influence stakeholders
  • Track record of embedding sustainable change and driving behavioural shift
  • Experience leading customer‑focused HR teams and driving organisational change
  • Commercial, pragmatic, and outcomes‑focused
