Job Description
The primary focus of this Purchasing Manager role is to ensure our Purchasing department continues to play a pivotal role in our business’s growth ambitions. You will have a key role in delivering a Purchasing strategy in an environment focussed on continuous improvement and growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee 3 existing purchasing staff across the UK
- Oversee total UK & European spend (GBP25 million t/o)
- Drive improved commercial terms across the supplier base including pricing, rebates, MOQs and payment terms
- Assess how to get best value out of the current procurement relationships (500 active, circa 20 main partners) and where needed, rationalise our supplier portfolio
Qualifications
- Qualified procurement specialist holding either CIPs/MCIPs or the equivalent and experience in a technical environment
- Hands‑on approach, prepared to listen and shoulder hard decisions
- Proven purchasing experience, preferably in a technical B2B environment (Chemical, Adhesives, Coatings, Paints, Resins, Abrasives)
- Strong experience working for a distributor or a business that sells through established distribution networks
- Strong commercial instincts and confidence to challenge suppliers when needed
- Comfort in simplifying processes and avoiding over engineering
- Good understanding of inventory, supply chain and shelf‑life considerations (over 2000 SKUs)
- Desire to run point on building an efficient and commercially effective function
- Strong-willed, commercial and confident in your approach and experienced in a similar change/growth environment
