Job Description:

Procurement Manager – Civil Works Alliance (CWA) at Sizewell C

Assume key responsibilities in procuring goods, services, and subcontractors for the Sizewell C nuclear project, a 3.2-gigawatt, low‑carbon power station supplying electricity to 6 million homes. The role operates within the CWA Wide Section, supporting the project’s mission to deliver reliable, clean energy for at least 60 years.

Responsibilities

  • Implement procurement strategy as directed by the senior procurement manager.
  • Deliver project procurement objectives and requirements.
  • Support procurement and estimating teams with tendering, market analysis, supplier selection, risk and opportunity assessments, and forecasting.
  • Provide market intelligence, cost advice, supply‑chain performance management and feedback.
  • Support a team of procurement professionals, including training & development, staff appraisals, retention & reward, and recruitment to deliver an effective procurement service.
  • Be responsible and accountable for the procurement process of subcontractors, materials, plant and services in accordance with the project procurement strategy and SZC commitments.
  • Apply an ethical and consistent approach to procurement of goods and services, ensuring compliance with governance, best practice, legislation and nuclear regulations.
  • Develop the project supplier database linked to Compete For – including market assessments, tracking of engagement effectiveness, pre‑qualification status and bid‑support performance.
  • Monitor markets and provide alternative procurement strategies to maximise opportunities or minimise risk.
  • Provide management information and reports in accordance with project requirements.
  • Contribute to managing and monitoring the supply‑chain performance for the project throughout the work‑package life cycle.
  • Develop professional, robust and effective relationships with suppliers, sub‑contractors and service providers, ensuring best value to SZC.
  • Assist in developing local, diverse and SME engagement strategies, hosting Meet the Buyer events and community advertising.
  • Lead the development of the Local Sustainable Procurement Plan in liaison with parent‑company experts.
  • Maintain a relentless focus on Zero Harm.

Essential qualifications & experience:

  • Proven ability to deliver robust procurement strategies.
  • Measured decision‑making approach ensuring best‑value procurement.
  • Capacity to focus on targets and work well under tight deadlines and pressure.
  • Demonstrated added value through procurement activity.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS) or chartership with another construction‑focused institute (e.g., CIOB or RICS).
  • Industry qualification: Diploma Level 4, HNC in Building Studies, or degree.
