The Ophthalmology Department supports the Diabetic Screening Service, the Age Related Macular Degeneration Service and general retinal and glaucoma services. We are seeking an enthusiastic, organized individual to work within an existing team to continue supporting our patients referred into the hospital eye services from primary care. The role involves organising timely treatments, diagnostic investigations and follow‑up appointments for patients on specialist pathways to optimise visual outcomes and ensure quality care and clinical safety.

Main Duties of the Job

You must have the ability to communicate effectively at all levels and work well autonomously as well as part of a team. Excellent prioritisation, organisational skills and previous database management experience are essential. Good levels of IT knowledge and the ability to manage electronic patient records are required.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Training

  • Educated to GCSE or equivalent (minimum C grade English).
  • NVQ Level 3 in Retinal Screening unit’s 1, 2 & 9 or willing to work towards it (completion required within 2 years of starting the post).
  • Microsoft Office based computer packages with awareness of email and internet.
  • Experience using the IP Optomise system.
  • Any office based training such as NVQ.

Experience

  • Relevant administrative ophthalmic experience.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or autonomously.
  • Previous NHS experience.
  • Ophthalmic failsafe experience.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Good prioritisation and organisational skills.
  • Evidence of database management.
  • Familiarity with work‑based computer systems including Medway.
  • Ability to compile spreadsheets.
  • Aware of data protection and confidentiality.
  • Ophthalmic terminology.
  • Awareness of ENSPDR.
