Maintenance Engineer – Progression to Senior Maintenance Engineer
Salary – £38,000-£40,000 plus overtime opportunities
Location – Stockport
Monday to Thursday: 7:00am – 4:00pm; Friday: 7:00am – 1:00pm
Introduction to the company
My client is a manufacturing and engineering business based in Stockport.
The site runs specialist production equipment, including 30+ CNC machines.
This role has been created for succession planning. The plan is for this person to join as a Maintenance Engineer, learn the site, and progress into a Senior Maintenance Engineer role.
You will join a close-knit maintenance team with strong support from an experienced Senior Engineer.
Role and responsibilities
You will work across planned maintenance, breakdowns, fault finding, projects and site improvements.
- Carry out PPM across CNC machines and production equipment
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and PLC faults
- Respond to breakdowns and reduce downtime
- Support around 30+ CNC machines across the site
- Work with production teams to keep machines running
- Assist with machinery installation, commissioning and relocation
- Support reliability improvement projects
- Learn site equipment and maintenance processes from the current Senior Engineer
- Support apprentices and junior team members where needed
- Liaise with OEMs, contractors and suppliers
- Help with maintenance planning, contractor coordination and spare parts
- Take ownership of engineering issues and solve problems hands‑on
Key requirements
- Multi‑skilled maintenance engineering experience
- Strong electrical fault‑finding skills
- Experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment
- Fault‑finding experience across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and PLC‑controlled equipment
- Ability to read engineering drawings, schematics and technical documents
- Formal engineering training such as NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, apprenticeship or equivalent
- CNC machinery experience would be a big advantage
- Experience mentoring or supporting other engineers would also help, but it is not essential
