Position Summary

Lead and deliver engineering development activities across the General Valve and Safety Valve portfolio, managing technical teams, project execution, and product lifecycle improvements. Responsible for ensuring compliance, safety, performance validation and efficient utilisation of development and test resources.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate direct and indirect engineering resources across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans aligned to business master schedules and strategic objectives.
  • Manage NPD project funnel stages 1-7 as necessary, with key focus on stages 2-5.
  • Chair cross-functional project and productivity meetings, ensuring actions are tracked and delivered.
  • Drive value engineering (VE), cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Own the creation, review, and maintenance of technical files, design calculations and product documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards and directives (e.g. PED, BS EN standards, internal specifications).
  • Participate in associated audits and committees as necessary.
  • Act as technical authority for product queries, non-conformances, and customer support issues.
  • Ensure all engineering and development activities are conducted in accordance with company H&S policies and UK legislation (e.g. PUWER, COSHH where applicable).
  • Lead or support risk assessments (RAMS), design risk reviews (DFMEA) and safe system of work development.
  • Manage external engineering resource (IDC), assigning activities and maintaining regular cadence.
  • Manage and optimise use of engineering development and laboratory/test resources.
  • Oversee specification, selection, calibration and maintenance of test equipment and rigs.
  • Manage external test houses or third‑party validation activities where required.
  • Support investment planning for future test capability and equipment upgrades.
  • Provide regular progress reporting against project, cost and performance KPIs.
  • Identify risks, constraints and resource challenges with mitigation strategies.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools and methodologies.
  • International travel on occasion.

Qualifications / Experience / Training

  • Essential Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng).
  • Approximately 5–8 years of experience in mechanical design / product development environment.
  • Demonstrable experience managing engineering projects and cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (casting, machining, assembly, testing).
  • Experience working to engineering standards and regulatory requirements (e.g. PED).
  • Proven experience in product validation and testing.
  • Desirable Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards.
  • Experience in valves, HVAC, building services, or fluid systems.
  • Knowledge of industry standards (e.g. BS EN 12266, HTM guidance, ISO frameworks, IATF 16949).
  • Experience with DFMEA, risk management and structured NPD processes.
  • Familiarity with Agile / Stage‑Gate product development methodologies.
  • Experience managing test laboratories or development facilities.
