Mechanical / Electrical Fitter – Instructor Role (Full Training Provided)

£50,000 – £63,000 (DOE) – Manchester – Mon–Fri Days Only

Ready to come off the tools without losing the practical work? We’re recruiting for a hands‑on engineering role ideal for Mechanical Fitters, Electrical Fitters, Technicians, Ex‑Forces personnel or those from heavy industry who want to work closer to home and move into a long‑term career in training. No teaching experience required – full Train‑the‑Trainer qualification provided.

This is a practical, workshop‑based role (around 80% hands‑on) – not a classroom‑only job. You’ll deliver training in a specialist environment focused on substation fitting, electrical systems and infrastructure, helping develop the next generation of engineers.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver hands‑on training in mechanical and electrical fitting
  • Work with switchgear, cabling, and substation equipment
  • Teach safe working practices in line with industry standards
  • Support learners through NVQ / Diploma / technical qualifications
  • Assess competency and provide structured feedback
  • Maintain training equipment and workshop spaces
  • Ensure strict adherence to health & safety regulations

Required skills and experience

  • Background as a Mechanical Fitter, Electrical Fitter, Technician or similar
  • Experience in heavy industry, utilities, manufacturing, or ex‑forces engineering
  • Minimum 5 years’ hands‑on experience
  • City & Guilds Level 2 (or equivalent)
  • Physically fit (role involves ladders, scaffolding and switchgear work)
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable (not essential – training provided)

  • Experience in HV/LV or power distribution
  • Previous training, coaching or mentoring experience
  • Assessing or teaching qualifications (A1, D32/33, PTLLS etc.)
  • Health & Safety qualifications (IOSH / NEBOSH)

Working Hours
