Childrens Occupational Therapist – Band 5

Are you about to finish your degree and looking for your first job or already working and looking for a new challenge? An exciting opportunity has opened up for an additional Band 5 to join our ICAN Occupational Therapy team.

Job Overview

The role involves working with children and young people with health needs and their families to identify functional/participation needs, set collaborative goals, and advise on strategies to achieve these goals. Sessions may be face-to-face, by telephone, in clinic, at home or in education settings including Specialist Inclusive Learning Centres. You will contribute to EHCPs and work with other agencies such as social care and the CHAD OT team. Responsibilities include assessing, recommending and reviewing specialist equipment for seating, toileting, bathing and moving & handling, and providing specialist advice and strategies in collaboration with physiotherapy staff.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Support children and families in achieving goals important to them.
  • Manage a caseload and deliver a range of interventions across the service.
  • Develop specialist skills in assessment and interventions, including provision of specialist equipment.
  • Plan and manage your own diary, delegate work to OT supporter worker colleagues while progressing through Band 5 competencies to become an autonomous practitioner.
  • Support students on placement and provide continuing professional development.
  • Keep up-to-date with the Children and Families Act.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience working in community settings with children and young people.
  • Clinical knowledge of occupation-centred practice.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Self‑motivated, collaborative and willing to participate in designing and delivering new models of care.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
