Senior Technician – Roads, Belfast.

About the Role

WSP is looking for an experienced Senior Technician to conduct Private Streets Inspections for the Department for Infrastructure in the Belfast area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and conduct inspections at Private Streets sites (including inactive sites as reported by the PS Database), Article 3(4c) sites, and Licensed sites (relating to planning applications).
  • Inspect materials, construction methods and layout, both vertical and horizontal, ensuring compliance with drawings and Construction Regulations.
  • Inspect for bond reductions and preliminary adoption, producing snagging lists and recommendations.
  • Liaise with developers/builders, appointed engineers, utilities (NIW) and other stakeholders; attend site meetings and identify potential issues.
  • Collate paperwork for bond reductions and adoptions, prepare bond estimates, maintain inspection records/files and update backlog sites spreadsheet.
  • Update Private Streets Database and manage inspection documentation.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proficient in software such as AutoCAD.
  • Level 4 qualification (or above) in a STEM based subject, or equivalent experience in an engineering technician role.
  • Attained or working towards professional qualifications such as EngTech, with demonstrable progress.
  • Understanding of highway engineering principles, standards and procedures, with ability to apply to small‑scale or moderately complex projects.
  • Experience handling data with MS Excel or other data‑based systems.
  • Excellent communication skills with clients, developers, consultants, elected representatives and the public.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
