Mechanical Fitter

Location: Redhill. Employment type: Full‑time. Salary: £28,000 – £32,000 per annum.

The Role

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will assemble and build high‑precision testing equipment, working independently and as part of a collaborative team to deliver quality builds that meet exacting standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble and build materials testing machines, mechanical and pneumatic grips, and precision instruments.
  • Fit mechanical components including wiring looms and electronic displays.
  • Operate workshop equipment such as pillar drills, manual lathes, and hand tools.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, assembly drawings, and tolerances.
  • Ensure parts are correctly prepared, fitted, and adapted for testing.
  • Carry out quality checks and maintain high standards of workmanship.
  • Complete required documentation (work orders, timesheets, etc.).
  • Maintain an organised, clean, and safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments and support team objectives.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting process enhancements.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Apprentice‑trained or equivalent (NVQ, HNC, HND or similar in Mechanical Engineering).
  • Strong mechanical engineering background.
  • Competent using precision measuring tools (micrometers, verniers, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Experience with a range of manual and machine tools.
  • Understanding of health and safety best practice.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving ability.

Desirable

  • City & Guilds, BTEC, or ONC equivalent.
  • Experience in a machine build or production environment.

Working Hours

39 hours per week: Monday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
