Contract

Fixed Term Contract – 3 Years (Potential for contract to become permanent pending budget approval)

Salary

Grade 2 (£25,949)* – subject to national pay award negotiations for 2026.

Hours

Full Time – 37 Hours per week. Flexi Time Scheme – accrue up to 13 extra days off a year (pro‑rated) on top of your annual leave.

Overview

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue are seeking two motivated and reliable PPE & Equipment Logistics Operatives to join our newly formed dedicated PPE & Equipment Logistics Support function within the Technical Services Team. The role supports the implementation and ongoing operation of a PPE & Asset management system across all stations, training locations and workshops, including extensive daily travel within the service area and occasional supplier visits.

Responsibilities / Key Duties

  • Receiving, inspecting, storing and delivering PPE and operational equipment.
  • Tagging and re‑tagging items of PPE and operational equipment.
  • Maintaining and updating accurate electronic records and inventory levels.
  • Preparing and distributing equipment to stations and departments.
  • Ensuring PPE compliance checks, cleaning coordination and repairs.
  • Supporting audits and stock takes.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and organised work environment.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a logistics, stores or warehouse environment.
  • Experience with stock control systems and inventory management.
  • Handling and distributing PPE & equipment accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Work experience in a health and safety regulated environment.

Essential Skills

  • Full UK driving license.
  • Good organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Attention to detail and precision.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • IT skills, including use of stock systems, email and data entry.

Additional Information / Benefits

New starters will begin at the bottom of the salary grade with incremental increases to the top of the grade. Annual leave increases after 5 years’ service to 32 days, then adds an extra day a year up to a maximum of 37 days.

All eligible staff are auto‑enrolled onto the Local Government Pension Scheme with personal contributions ranging from 5.5% to 12.5%.

The scheme is a defined‑benefit pension scheme based on salary and length of pay; 1/49th of pensionable salary is added per year plus cost‑of‑living adjustments.
