The purpose of the Merchandising function is to ensure all key squad metrics are on track to budget and are responsible for highlighting to the squads where any of these key metrics such as sales, margin, stock health or availability are at risk and what needs to be done to course correct and get back to plan.
An Assistant Category Merchandiser will help to contribute to the delivery of Category performance and achieve the annual budget by supporting the Senior Category / Category Merchandiser to manage the activity required to hit the set targets.
Working with a large number of functions internally such as Distribution, Space Planning, Central Planning, Central Data, Buying Teams and Go‑To‑Market, as well as external Suppliers Logistics teams to ensure we get the stock required into our business to support the range, availability and sales plan.
Key Responsibilities
In-Season Execution
- Take accountability for achieving all key performance indicators (sales, stock, margin and markdown)
- Work with the Senior Category Merchandiser / Category Merchandiser weekly to achieve key stock KPIs – Stock Turn & Availability as well as improving stock health metrics such as Exit, Excess, Stranded & Aged stock mix
- Regularly review and report on Supplier performance in or monitor weekly performance and make recommendations for activity to ensure a successful in‑season execution and deliver the target availability across the store estate.
- In line with the Category to optimise the sales and profit targets and maintain a first‑class customer experience
- Track On‑Time‑In‑Full and take appropriate action to resolve delivery failures and minimise future occurrences
- Assume responsibility for purchase orders execution within the agreed parameters and timelines
- Assist the category team with store feedback issues regarding stock and availability
- Track intake against the WSSI Open to Buy, managing brand expectations around monthly intake phasing and highlighting any variances or risks to the wider team
KPIs
- Have an awareness of exit, excess and aged stock, sales, margin and availability and manage in line with the company policy and update the team with the relevant information
- Build close relationships with supplier counterparts to ensure a continuity of supply and to minimise failed deliveries through effective management and progress chasing
Commercial Process
- Comply with standard Commercial Processes in accordance with critical paths and business rules
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong numerical and analytical skills to review data and provide recommendations/actions / plans to drive sales, profit and cash
- Good negotiation and influencing skills
- Excellent inter‑personal and communication skills, capable of presenting with Team forums as well as working cross functionally to achieve the desired results
- Excellent commercial awareness and understanding of customer needs
- Good knowledge of MS Office, in particular Excel
- Knowledge of SAP/Compass Planning/Arthur Planning, Manugistics /Oracle/JDA or other equivalent Merchandise planning systems
- Experience of both the Electricals market and products beneficial
- Experience using Power BI
