Company: Royal Mencap Society
Apply for the Support Worker – Selby
Location: Selby
Job Description:

We are looking for Support Workers to join our service in Selby on a permanent, part‑time basis (30 hours).

We are looking to grow our team of dedicated, caring and enthusiastic support workers. You will be working with a diverse group of people, each with their own unique abilities and needs. You will be expected to provide an outstanding level of support that will help to ensure the people we support live a happy life. You will have excellent communication skills and be a naturally caring and patient personality.

Typical responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting people to live independently – budget management, paying bills, housework, organising appointments and cooking healthy meals.
  • Building relationships – supporting the people we support to understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships.
  • Community & Social Inclusion – supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and social events to promote life skills and individuality.
  • Personal care – helping people to get ready for the day, prompting medication, assisting with bathing, showering and using the bathroom. Not all Support Worker roles include high levels of personal care.

Shift patterns vary; shifts are spread across mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays. Flexibility is key. Some services have sleep‑in shifts or waking night shifts. Rotas are prepared at least four weeks in advance so you can plan your personal and social life.

What we’re looking for:

  • A genuine passion for supporting others.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • A positive and empathetic attitude towards individuals with learning disabilities.
  • Drivers are essential for this service.
  • Experience within the care sector is an advantage but not a necessity; full training will be provided.

Please note: this position does not meet the minimum salary requirements for a Health and Care visa under the UK Skilled Worker route, as set by the Home Office. Therefore, although Mencap is a licensed sponsor, we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role. Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the UK, as we are not able to support new visa applications or sponsorship requests for this vacancy.

All roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check and suitable references.

JOB ID: 36239

  • Includes 24 days of paid holiday (pro‑rated, excluding bank holidays), discounts, health cash plans, interest‑free loans, and more.
