Job overview

The position of Maintenance Joiner will be based at the Prestwich site with a percentage of the time spent supporting GMMH buildings on the site and covering all locations throughout the Trust. This may change depending on the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

To carry out the repair, maintenance, or installation of all elements of building structure and fabric associated with all Trust properties. This will consist of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), fault finding, emergency response, defect correction and minor works.

The post-holder will be an integral part of a strong site-based team structure and serve as the first line Building Maintenance Technician for all day‑to‑day breakdowns, repairs and planned preventive maintenance works. The post holder will be employed to work appropriate to their core skills around building fabric.

You will be versatile and able to handle conflicting priorities within this dynamic hospital environment, possessing great interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with technical and non‑technical staff. You will also have significant building services experience and the ability to work under pressure.

Benefits

  • £28,392 – £31,157 per annum salary plus additional RRP payment reviewed annually
  • 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 29 after 5 years and 33 after 10 years

Person specification

Desired qualifications include a recognised trade apprenticeship and a BTEC/HNC/Diploma in a Building or equivalent City & Guilds qualification with intermediate practical and theoretical knowledge and significant equivalent experience.

Knowledge of NHS technical standards, HTM’s and HBN’s mentoring and training experience, and operating a computerised labour management system.

Skills and knowledge

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety policy, safe working procedures and statutory legislation
  • Ability to read, understand and analyse complex building and engineering systems and drawings
  • Good planning skills and ability to work under own initiative in a demand‑driven service
  • Familiarity with Microsoft software and general computer literacy
