Position Summary
City Cruises UK operates public dining and sightseeing cruises, and private charters across London and York. This apprenticeship, lasting a minimum of two years, provides hands‑on experience operating vessels on the River Thames and developing maritime skills for a career on the water.
Responsibilities
- Complete all required apprenticeship training.
- Take responsibility for personal learning.
- Apply best practice when operating vessels, obtaining relevant qualifications and BML.
- Comply with Company SMS regulations and assist the captain with safety compliance.
- Support the captain in onboard safety training and conduct daily safety briefings.
- Ensure vessels meet safety standards and maintain them.
- Navigate vessels on the River Thames following the company passage plan, PLA bylaws, and captain instructions.
- Support safe mooring and vessel safety announcements.
- Account for and ensure safe embarkation and disembarkation of passengers from recognised locations.
- Carry out daily vessel log checks, focusing on safety equipment and engines.
- Report maintenance checks or incidents as per the SMS.
- Assist with fueling, water, and supply stock, addressing shortages before service.
- Support the engineering department with watering, bunkering, servicing, and ad hoc tasks.
- Assist in vessel surveys and ensure onboard documentation and equipment are maintained.
- Keep the vessel clean, tidy, and well presented at all times.
- Perform third‑hand duties on board charters and care of workboats.
- Participate in dockings, stability tests, and shipyard operations.
- Provide passengers with commentary during the sightseeing journey.
- Represent City Cruises in uniform, presenting well at all times.
- Attend and participate in training across all City Cruises UK locations.
- Perform any other task assigned by the Operations team.
- Act as an ambassador for the company off‑site.
Requirements & Qualifications
Educational Level
- GCSEs including English and Maths (Level 2/Grade C and above).
