Long Term Futures is currently seeking a confident and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a thriving secondary school in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled education professional who is passionate about supporting young people and contributing to high-quality teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Working closely with teaching staff and senior leaders, you will play a key role in supporting student progress, delivering interventions, and providing classroom cover where required. The successful candidate will be confident managing groups of students, leading pre-planned lessons, and supporting pupils to achieve their academic and personal potential.

Key Duties

  • Delivering pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects in the absence of teaching staff.
  • Supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4 to improve attainment, engagement, and confidence.
  • Leading targeted intervention programmes for individuals and small groups.
  • Providing academic support to students who require additional guidance.
  • Supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH needs, or barriers to learning.
  • Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to teaching and pastoral staff.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and implementing behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.
  • Assisting with examination preparation and revision support sessions.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, pastoral teams, and parents to support student outcomes.
  • Contributing to a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor, or similar role within a secondary school setting.
  • Experience delivering lessons or supervising classes independently.
  • Strong knowledge of the secondary curriculum and the challenges facing young people.
  • Excellent classroom management and behaviour management skills.
  • The ability to engage and motivate students from a range of backgrounds and abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive, organised, and adaptable approach to supporting teaching and learning.
  • A genuine passion for education and helping young people succeed.
  • HLTA status is desirable but not essential for candidates with relevant experience.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered (Child Workforce) on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
