Long Term Futures is currently seeking a confident and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a thriving secondary school in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled education professional who is passionate about supporting young people and contributing to high-quality teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4.
Working closely with teaching staff and senior leaders, you will play a key role in supporting student progress, delivering interventions, and providing classroom cover where required. The successful candidate will be confident managing groups of students, leading pre-planned lessons, and supporting pupils to achieve their academic and personal potential.
Key Duties
- Delivering pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects in the absence of teaching staff.
- Supporting students across Key Stages 3 and 4 to improve attainment, engagement, and confidence.
- Leading targeted intervention programmes for individuals and small groups.
- Providing academic support to students who require additional guidance.
- Supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH needs, or barriers to learning.
- Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to teaching and pastoral staff.
- Promoting positive behaviour and implementing behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.
- Assisting with examination preparation and revision support sessions.
- Working collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, pastoral teams, and parents to support student outcomes.
- Contributing to a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor, or similar role within a secondary school setting.
- Experience delivering lessons or supervising classes independently.
- Strong knowledge of the secondary curriculum and the challenges facing young people.
- Excellent classroom management and behaviour management skills.
- The ability to engage and motivate students from a range of backgrounds and abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive, organised, and adaptable approach to supporting teaching and learning.
- A genuine passion for education and helping young people succeed.
- HLTA status is desirable but not essential for candidates with relevant experience.
- An Enhanced DBS registered (Child Workforce) on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
