Job Description:

Apprentice Tattooist – Angry Elf Tattoo Studio

We are a friendly and welcoming tattoo studio in Ipswich, offering a variety of tattoo services including cover‑ups, sleeves and more. Our studio is known for its skilled artists and attention to detail, ensuring a positive and satisfying tattoo experience for all clients. The studio’s relaxed atmosphere makes it a comfortable place for visitors to enjoy their tattooing experience.

We’re officially looking for a new tattoo apprentice to join the team. This is not a casual position; it requires the work ethic, discipline, commitment, and professionalism involved in tattooing. We want a creative, hardworking, reliable individual who is genuinely driven to improve both artistically and personally. Compatibility is hugely important to us, as we have built a close‑knit team and studio environment over many years. Attitude, communication, professionalism, and how someone fits within the team matter as much as artistic ability.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong drawing and design ability
  • Good communication and people skills
  • Reliability and professionalism
  • Attention to detail
  • A willingness to learn from the ground up
  • Motivation, self‑awareness, and openness to constructive criticism
  • A genuine passion for tattooing and art

Entry requirements

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Show genuine original artwork; include traditional artwork/sketchbook work alongside any digital work where possible
  • Be available Tuesday–Saturday

Working Hours

  • Start time: 9:30 am Tuesday–Saturday
  • Finish times vary depending on workload, typically between 4 pm–6 pm
  • Applicants must be willing to attend occasional weekend conventions and events when required

Important

Please do not apply with AI‑generated artwork, copied designs, or poorly executed self‑taught tattoos/practice tattoos. We value proper training, professionalism and respect for the craft, and we’re looking for somebody willing to learn correctly from the ground up.

Apprenticeship progression

Tattoo apprenticeships are first and foremost a training position. The successful applicant will begin by learning the fundamentals of working within a professional tattoo studio and will be expected to demonstrate commitment, reliability, professionalism and a strong work ethic. As their skills, responsibilities and contribution to the studio develop, opportunities for paid responsibilities and progression will be introduced. The apprenticeship is an investment in their future career and the applicant must be prepared to earn their place within the industry.

How to apply

Email your portfolio and a short introduction to angryelfapplications@gmail.com. Please make sure you’ve read this post properly before applying. Your subject line must say: “Apprenticeship Application – Green”. Applications without this subject line will not be considered.

Please include:

  • Your name and age
  • A short introduction about yourself
  • Examples of your artwork/design work
  • Your Instagram handle (if applicable)
  • Why you feel you’d be a good fit for the studio

Application process

Successful applicants will be shortlisted down to a final three candidates. Each shortlisted candidate will complete a two‑week trial period within the studio environment so we can assess attitude, compatibility, work ethic, professionalism and overall fit for the team. Following this stage, one applicant will be offered the apprenticeship position. Please do not DM the studio page asking if we’ve seen your application. If you’ve applied correctly, we’ll see it. We’ll be taking our time with this process, so please be patient. Good luck.
