Wage: £16,640 for the first year, then could increase depending on your age.

National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices applies.

What you’ll do at work

We would welcome applicants for a Level 3 Apprenticeship for those who have already achieved Level 2.

  • To be trained to carry out the same duties as a Nursery Practitioner or Nursery Assistant.
  • To contribute to a high‑quality caring environment for children.
  • To create a warm, friendly and stimulating atmosphere that supports children’s emotional, social and educational development through individual attention and group activities.
  • To work with children.
  • To attend all training as set out in your training agreement.
  • To complete all assignments on time.
  • To work as part of the team.
  • To attend associated training deemed appropriate by the manager.
  • To liaise with mentor and manager.
  • To attend team meetings and share ideas.
  • To provide, under supervision, all aspects of care for children, including washing, changing and feeding.
  • To assist with meeting the personal, social and emotional needs of individual children.
  • To provide adult‑led interactions with children in the nursery.
  • To be aware of and abide by the nursery’s safeguarding and child protection, confidentiality and other relevant policies.
  • To support all staff and engage in a good staff team.
  • To contribute to good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness.
  • To undertake other duties of an equivalent nature as may be determined by supervisors.

Training

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

  • Support babies and young children through a range of transitions and significant events.
  • Recognise when a child is in danger or at risk of serious harm or abuse, and explain the procedures to be followed to protect them.
  • Identify risks and hazards in the provision and during off‑site visits, and follow reporting procedures.
  • Apply prevention and control of infection techniques for hand washing, food preparation and hygiene, and safe disposal of waste.
  • Use equipment, furniture and materials safely and securely, following manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Encourage children to be aware of personal safety and develop personal hygiene practices.
  • Promote health and wellbeing by encouraging healthy, balanced, nutritious meals and physical activity.
  • Carry out respectful care routines appropriate to the child’s development and needs.
  • Communicate effectively with all children, including those with additional needs or English as an additional language.
  • Extend children’s development and learning through verbal and non‑verbal communication.
  • Use a variety of communication methods to share information with children, parents or carers and other professionals.
  • Work with colleagues to identify and plan educational programmes that support holistic development through play, creativity, social development and learning.
  • Implement and review activities to support play, creativity, social development and learning, and clean up after activities.
  • Observe children, assess, plan and record outcomes, and share results accurately and confidentially in line with statutory requirements.
  • Use learning activities to support early language development.
  • Support children’s early interest and development in mark making, writing, reading and being read to.
  • Support children’s interest and development in mathematical learning including numbers and patterns.
  • Use a graduated approach to assess, plan, implement and review each child’s individual care and participation plan.
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues, other professionals and agencies to meet the needs of babies and young children.
  • Work alongside parents or carers, recognising their role in the child’s health, well‑being, learning and development.
  • Encourage parents or carers to take an active role in the child’s care, play, learning and development.
  • Share information with parents or carers about healthy, balanced diets, oral health and physical activity.

Requirements

GCSE in: (specify subjects). Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience.
