Are you a highly motivated and qualified Secondary Science Teacher seeking a rewarding, fixed-term opportunity? We are looking for an exceptional practitioner to join our successful and forward-thinking secondary school in Plymouth. This full-time, temporary post is ideal for a dedicated Science professional ready to contribute fully to departmental success within Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4).

The Role

The core focus of this position is to deliver high-quality, engaging Science lessons. We have flexibility depending on your preference: roles that include full planning and preparation are paid strictly to your scale, while positions with zero planning or prep responsibilities are paid at a flat daily rate. You will be responsible for ensuring exceptional progress and positive outcomes for all students aged 11-16 as they develop their scientific enquiry, practical skills, and core knowledge across the sciences.

What We Offer

  • Flexible Pay Structures:

    • Paid to Scale: Main Pay Scale (MPS) or Upper Pay Scale (UPS) commensurate with experience for roles requiring full planning and preparation.

    • Daily Rate: £130-£160 per day for roles with no planning and prep required.

  • Weekly Pay: All salaries and daily rates are paid weekly.

  • Professional Growth: A robust Continuous Professional Development (CPD) program.

  • Support: The chance to work within a highly collaborative and supportive departmental team.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic educator who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant degree in a Science discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related field).

  • Possesses recent, demonstrable experience teaching Science at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

  • Exhibits excellent classroom management skills, with a strong awareness of laboratory safety protocols.

  • Is passionate about Science and committed to raising student attainment.

  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of the National Curriculum requirements for Science.

  • Is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on the specific placement chosen, responsibilities will include delivering high-quality Science lessons (including practical experiments) and assessing student progress. For full-scale roles, you will also take responsibility for the planning, preparation, and detailed marking of all pupils’ work, alongside contributing to schemes of work, undertaking a form tutor role, and actively participating in whole-school life.
