Job overview

Our Security and Parking team are seeking pro‑active team players with experience of dealing with members of the public. Transferrable skills from hospitality backgrounds will be considered together with current security experience or those with a police or military background.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct patrols, respond to incidents, write reports and enforce the site traffic policy.
  • Use handheld devices and manage digital reporting.
  • Diffuse and deescalate complex situations, building rapport and maintaining safety for staff, patients and visitors.
  • Communicate confidently and make justified decisions under autonomy.
  • Work unsupervised during days, nights and weekends.

Main duties of the job

As a Security and Parking Officer at North Bristol NHS Trust you will provide a pro‑active, well‑presented, professional, uniformed security presence during 37.5 hours per week, covering days, nights and weekends.

  • Respond to incidents on Trust property, including investigations into suspicious behaviour or criminal activity such as theft and anti‑social behaviour.
  • Support clinical staff during clinical incidents; provide assistance and safe detainment of patients under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act where required.
  • Protect Trust property from damage and theft, promoting a safe environment.
  • Record every incident accurately and produce detailed reports.
  • Maintain a security presence in the Emergency Department on a rotational basis, intercepting inappropriate behaviour and safeguarding patient service.
  • Assist with fire alarm evacuations.
  • Uphold and enforce the Trust Parking policy, including cash collection, issuing parking charge notices and supporting traffic management.
  • Report health and safety breaches and support equal opportunities and diversity legislation.
  • Assist with risk management for the Division and Trust, identifying risks and implementing controls.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Provide a professional, uniformed security presence for North Bristol Trust.
  • Lead responses to incidents on Trust property, investigating theft, anti‑social behaviour, and other criminal activities.
  • Remain calm and professional during stressful incidents.
  • Be ready to respond to alarms, violence, aggression and other significant events with urgency.
  • Support clinical staff, assist with detaining patients under the Mental Health Act 2007 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005, and use lawful holding and restraint where necessary.
  • Ensure safety and welfare of staff, patients and others, protecting property from damage or theft.
  • Accurately record incidents in pocket notebooks and produce detailed reports.
  • Maintain rotatory presence in the ED, intercepting poor behaviour and safeguarding patient service.
  • Investigate criminality, record incidents objectively and maintain up‑to‑date incident logs.
  • Complete specialist training for safer clinical holding and restraint where required.
  • Carry out internal and external patrols, completing site‑specific tasks and activities.
  • Assist with fire alarm evacuations, liaising with Trust Departments and Avon Fire and Rescue Service to minimise risk.
  • Uphold the Trust Parking policy, conduct car park cash collections, issue parking charge notices out of hours, assist with car park closures and traffic management.
  • Meet health and safety requirements, report breaches per the Adverse Incident Reporting policy and promote equality, diversity legislation.
  • Support risk management by identifying risks, implementing controls and reporting uncontrolled risk to Security Management.

Person specification

Education / Training / Qualifications

  • SIA Licence
  • NVQ Level 2 Customer Service or equivalent
  • GCSE or higher for English Language (spoken and written)
  • CCTV Licence
