Part‑Time Teacher of the Deaf

Part‑time (2.5–3 days per week) teaching role with TESSA Hearing. The role may extend to full‑time once a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf.

Responsibilities

  • Promote inclusive education and offer specialist support, teaching, advice and audiological management to deaf children and young people in homes, nurseries, schools and colleges.
  • Travel daily between office bases, children’s homes, nurseries, schools and colleges; transport provided.
  • Manage diary, work independently and as part of the team.
  • Learn and use new IT systems and adapt to remote working.
  • Apply knowledge of deafness, language development, learning and self‑identity to teaching.
  • Collaborate professionally, demonstrating integrity, humility and understanding.
  • Build long‑term positive relationships with children and families, sometimes from birth.
  • Maintain knowledge of specialist equipment and technology for deaf children.
  • Advise on person‑centred outcomes, contributing to statutory assessments (EHCP), annual reviews etc.
  • Keep up with the imminent national changes to SEND support and contribute to local developments.

Qualifications

Mandatory or willing to undertake a two‑year part‑time course to become a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf. A current Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent is expected. Experience supporting children with SEND is highly desirable.
