Azure Principal Platform Engineer

Internal Title: Azure Principal Consultant

Location: London, UK (Hybrid – typically 1-2 days per month in office)

Contract: Permanent

Package: £90,000 – £120,000 + 10 % Bonus + 10 % Shares + Benefits

About the Role

As an Azure Principal Platform Engineer, you will guide customers toward Cloud and DevOps excellence, design and implement scalable, resilient, and secure platforms, and lead a team of cloud consultants. You will help establish Appvia’s internal solutions team at an exciting time in our journey.

Interview Process – 4 stages

  • Discovery conversation with Talent Acquisition Manager
  • Paired Technical Assessment with Engineering team
  • Technical interview deep dive with Practice Leadership
  • Final competency interview with Engineering Leadership

Security Clearance

You must either hold active SC, or be eligible for SC:

  • British passport or ILR
  • Reside in the UK for at least the last 5 years
  • No criminal records
  • No financial irregularities

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with customers to define and execute strategies for cloud and DevOps adoption
  • Educate customers and stakeholders on cloud‑native technologies
  • Lead large, complex public‑cloud projects and select appropriate technologies
  • Manage teams of platform engineers and consultants, fostering a positive culture
  • Engage with enterprise clients, understand challenges, and deliver tailored solutions
  • Stay up‑to‑date with trends and share knowledge through blogs and videos

Requirements / About You

  • Passionate about new technology and automation
  • Experienced in leading an engineering team in Agile and DevOps best practices
  • Knowledge of continuous integration and deployment practices
  • Ability to collaborate with people of all technical levels
  • Understanding of industry best practices
  • Project management experience
  • Strong people skills, including motivation of a team toward a common goal

Skills

  • Mastery in designing and implementing scalable, resilient, and secure platforms
  • Expertise in IaC practices, automation tools (Terraform) and scripting (Python, Ruby)
  • Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes and managed Azure AKS
  • In‑depth knowledge of Azure services, architecture, landing zones and best practices
  • Excellent knowledge of CI/CD, containerisation, and serverless technologies

Experience

  • Proven leadership on large, complex public‑cloud projects
  • Experience managing and mentoring teams, fostering collaboration
  • Enterprise customer‑facing experience with high satisfaction
  • Commitment to continuous learning and industry knowledge sharing
  • Real‑world design and governance experience in Conditional Access, Identity lifecycle and PIM, Entra ID Protection, Defender, Sentinel

Qualifications

  • Azure expert/professional level certification (e.g. Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Cybersecurity Architect Expert, Information Security Administrator Associate, Security Operations Analyst Associate)
  • Kubernetes administration certification desirable (CKA, CKSS)
