Digital Imaging Officer – Science Fiction Collections

Library

Hours of work: Full-time – 35 hours/week

Tenure: Fixed term for 12 months

Hybrid Working: 2 days/week on campus or minimum requirement of 40% on campus, with 60% considered desirable where possible

Based in Libraries, Museums and Galleries, the Cultural Heritage team are seeking a Digital Imaging Officer – Science Fiction Collections for a fixed‑term role of 12 months. This is a perfect time to join the team in Libraries, Museums and Galleries for an exciting digitisation project with the University’s unique Heritage collections.

The role is part of a major project to digitise the entire Olaf Stapledon Archive. Part of the unparalleled Science Fiction Collections, the archive includes drafts, correspondence and diaries of Olaf Stapledon, a pioneering science‑fiction author and Philosophy lecturer at the University of Liverpool.

Responsibilities

You will be fully responsible for the delivery of the digitisation project, including workflow management, quality control of images and metadata, and digital asset management. Reporting to the Digital Heritage Manager, you will work closely with colleagues in the curatorial and licensing teams to make this valuable collection research‑ready, and contribute to a major planned digital resource based on Stapledon’s work.

Qualifications

You will have to be a specialist photographer with experience handling fragile objects, proven ability in digitisation workflow management including bulk‑processing, and an aptitude for problem‑solving and troubleshooting to meet delivery dates.

Please note that this work will include substantial periods of lone working in a specialist environment with low lighting levels and use of flash, and manual handling of archival material.
