Role Overview
AWS is looking for a HPC Specialist Architect for the Energy & Utilities Business Unit. The role involves serving as a subject matter expert to help customers design solutions that leverage AWS HPC services, working closely with customers in various geographies, enabling large‑scale use cases, and driving adoption of AWS HPC. You will collaborate with other Solutions Architects, provide guidance on customer engagements, develop white papers, blogs, reference implementations, and presentations, and create field enablement materials for the broader AWS architect population. You will gather effective feedback from customers and translate it into clear business and technical requirements for product and engineering teams, sponsoring the creation of new products and features to align with customer needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a customer advisor, implementing and deploying state‑of‑the‑art HPC solutions, building prototypes, PoCs, and exploring new solutions.
- Provide thought leadership by evangelizing AWS HPC services and sharing best practices through AWS blogs, white papers, reference architectures, and public‑speaking events such as AWS Summit and AWS re:Invent.
- Create field enablement materials for the broader Solutions Architect population to help them understand how to integrate HPC solutions into customer architectures.
- Act as a technical liaison between customers and AWS product teams to provide customer‑driven product improvement feedback.
- Travel up to 25% as needed.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or equivalent.
- Development experience with HPC frameworks for workloads in domains such as oil and gas, automotive/aerospace, financial services, or pharmaceuticals.
- Proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages: C++, Python, CUDA, or Bash.
- Experience architecting an HPC platform with scheduling middleware (e.g., Slurm, Torque, Symphony, or GridServer) and in deployment, tuning, and management of HPC technologies in a multi‑user environment.
- High‑level understanding of the underlying infrastructure platform and resources required to run HPC services.
- Willingness and ability to develop AWS technical proficiency within the first six months of employment.
- Experience communicating across technical and non‑technical audiences, including executive‑level stakeholders or clients.
- Proven ability to understand HPC user requirements and map these to solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or equivalent.
- Performance optimization experience with computationally intensive applications, particularly in oil and gas subsurface applications, reservoir simulation, and seismic data processing.
- Expertise in parallel programming models for loosely and tightly coupled applications, including proficiency with MPI (OpenMPI, MPICH), OpenMP, and hybrid parallelization strategies, and GPU programming using CUDA, OpenACC, or similar technologies.
- Significant experience in infrastructure architecture and networking, with experience in infrastructure as code technology such as CloudFormation, CDK, or equivalent.
- AWS technical proficiency – architected and implemented HPC solutions on AWS.
