Project Engineer (MEICA)
The Project Engineer within the MEICA business will bring demonstrable MEICA or industrial installation experience and practical skills to the team. The role provides detailed technical input, ensures works are safe and meet specifications prior to implementation, and focuses on achieving safety targets with zero tolerance of unsafe practices. The Engineer will actively engage the construction team in successful project delivery, ensuring that project related activities are planned and executed to meet requirements safely and cost‑effectively. The Engineer will also contribute to customer satisfaction and uphold quality throughout the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Project Management team in the delivery of MEICA projects.
- Produce functional specifications, select contractors and ensure all supporting scope is delivered on time.
- Provide data to the Commercial Manager/QS for variation orders and site instructions.
- Manage suppliers of engineering services across all technical disciplines.
- Liaise with consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors and the general workforce.
- Engage with clients and their representatives (architects, engineers, surveyors), attending regular meetings to keep them informed of progress.
- Develop and review tender documents for consultants and construction works.
- Understand project risks and coordinate mitigation activities.
- Carry out Technical Assurance checks and audits of contractor activities throughout design and construction phases.
- Assist in resolving engineering issues arising during delivery and ensure quality control.
- Manage multiple engineering aspects from inception to completion, meeting technical and quality standards.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and objectives.
- Develop and oversee project plans, schedules and budgets to ensure on‑time, on‑budget delivery.
- Prepare detailed MEICA & interface engineering drawings, schematics and technical documentation.
- Assign tasks, provide technical guidance and mentorship to the project team.
- Co‑ordinate with other engineering disciplines for integrated designs.
- Participate in site visits and inspections to monitor progress, resolve technical issues and maintain quality.
- Troubleshoot MEICA related issues during execution.
- Ensure compliance with codes, standards and industry best practices.
- Maintain project documentation, including technical reports, change orders and records.
- Provide technical support to clients and address inquiries.
- Stay current with advancements in electrical engineering technology and best practices.
- Prepare and deliver project progress reports and presentations to stakeholders.
About You – Essential
- Ability to liaise at all levels.

- Methodical approach with a clear focus on client, customer and quality.
- Strong leadership qualities and natural problem‑solving ability.
- Ability to prioritise varied workload and work under pressure in a busy environment.
- Degree level or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, ICA or Manufacturing engineering.
- SMSTS or NEBOSH qualified.
- Relevant CSCS Card (Experienced Technical Supervisor, Supervisory, Professionally Qualified Person or Manager).
- Previous experience in a similar role.
- Familiar with programme management and maintenance.
- Proficient in Office 365.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation regarding safe work practices.
- First Aid trained.
- Understanding the importance of promoting a safety culture on‑site.
Desirable
- Familiarity with WIMES Standards.
- Experience working within the utilities industry, especially Water & Wastewater.
- Strong programme and schedule management experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Commercial and contract experience.
- Knowledge of MF1, NEC, IChemE or similar model contracts.
- Thames Water Safety Passport or EUSR Water Hygiene card.
