Infrastructure Engineer – Contract – East Bristol (mostly remote) – up to 525/day – inside IR35 – Initial 6 months, with potential to extend

Must have SC clearance

We’re working with an organisation in East Bristol that is looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to support a major programme of infrastructure change. This is a hands‑on contract role suited to someone confident working across virtualisation, storage, backup, Microsoft cloud services, and technical design.

The successful contractor will play a key role in helping the organisation migrate away from VMware, modernise backup solutions, improve storage capability, and strengthen overall cyber resilience.

Key Responsibilities for the Infrastructure Engineer

  • Scope, design, and implement a replacement virtualisation platform as part of a move away from VMware.
  • Support the migration and improvement of backup solutions, including widening backup coverage across Microsoft 365 and Azure environments.
  • Scope, design, and implement replacement storage solutions.
  • Produce low‑level designs and supporting technical documentation.
  • Contribute to cyber resilience improvements across infrastructure, storage, backup, and recovery processes.
  • Gather technical requirements, assess current environments and recommend suitable solutions.
  • Plan and manage technical change, ensuring solutions are practical, secure, and fit for purpose.

Experience Required of the Infrastructure Engineer

  • Strong infrastructure engineering background, ideally within complex or changing environments.
  • Enhanced experience with virtualisation platforms, particularly VMware and Hyper‑V.
  • Experience designing or implementing storage solutions.
  • Good knowledge of backup technologies, disaster recovery, and cyber resilience principles.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Azure Cloud Services, Entra ID, and Active Directory.
  • Ability to produce solution designs, low‑level designs, and clear technical documentation.
  • Proven ability to plan, manage, and deliver technical change.
  • Strong analysis, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
