Senior Clinical / Counselling Psychologist

Position: Leeds Perinatal Mental Health Service – Yorkshire and Humber Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) in Leeds.Salary: £57,528 to £64,750 per annum pro rata.Closing date: 26 June 2026.

This role provides direct specialist psychological interventions to women and birthing parents with mental health difficulties during inpatient admission to the MBU. The psychologist works within a multi‑disciplinary team, contributing to service planning, assessment, formulation, parent‑infant and group interventions, supervision of junior staff and audit initiatives.

Main Duties

  • Assess, formulate and conduct individual, parent‑infant and group psychological interventions using evidence‑based methods.
  • Provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and risk management for service users admitted to the MBU.
  • Participate in MDT meetings and deliver psychological input to care planning.
  • Supervise and consult with colleagues, including clinical psychologists in training.
  • Engage in service development projects, audit, policy and service evaluation.
  • Coordinate with specialist parent‑infant, maternal mental health and regional services to ensure continuity of care pre‑ and post‑admission.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Doctorate level training in clinical psychology accredited by the BPS (or equivalent for prior to 1996) with HCPC registration, or doctorate level training in counselling psychology with HCPC registration.
  • Formal training in supervision of others.

Experience

  • Significant post‑qualification experience in an area of practice relevant to the service, including assessment of risk.

Skills

  • Expertise in complex psychological assessment, formulation, intervention and management, requiring sustained concentration.

Knowledge

  • Familiarity with evidence‑based psychological approaches for perinatal mental health and safety and wellbeing assessment.
