Oncology Staff Nurse

Role Summary

Band 5 Staff Nurse – Oncology Day Unit, North Tyneside General Hospital. Closing date: 25 June 2026.

Responsibilities

• Support the existing team in the safe delivery of holistic care to cancer patients undergoing day treatments.
• Provide high‑standard, evidence‑based, nurse‑led care to patients with a range of cancer conditions and their carers.
• Administer a wide range of cytotoxic chemotherapy drugs and supportive care, following appropriate training and support.
• Role‑model compassionate and inclusive leadership, engaging, enabling and empowering team members, using coaching to promote learning and quality improvement, and facilitating collaboration within and across departments.
• Maintain flexibility to meet increasingly complex service needs and work effectively within a small team, demonstrating resilience, warmth and a sense of humour.
• Perform venepuncture, IV drug administration and care of central venous access devices as required.

Person Specification

• Registered Nursing Member of the NMC with Level 1 live qualification.
• Evidence of qualification to supervise, teach and assess students (essential requirement).
• Willingness to expand knowledge and scope to include phlebotomy, cannulation, vascular access (CVC) care and administration of SACT cytotoxic chemotherapy.
• Willingness to complete an accredited SACT course and obtain the SACT competence passport within 12 months of commencement.
• Completion of PP126/7 Practice Assessor and Academic Assessor course and D32/33 Assessor Course.
• Formalised chemotherapy training and readiness to undertake formal study for role qualification.

Salary

£32,073 to £39,043 a year pro rata.
