Clinical Pharmacist – Band 6 to 7

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Trust (SWYPFT) invites qualified pharmacists and trainee pharmacists to apply for a Band 6 to 7 progression pathway. The role is based at Fieldhead Hospital, Wakefield, with occasional travel required to other trust localities.

Job Responsibilities

Key duties:

  • Provide clinical pharmacy services across mental health settings including inpatient wards, forensic units, community mental health teams and learning disability services.
  • Deliver high‑quality, patient‑focused pharmaceutical care.
  • Provide medicines information and advice to healthcare professionals and patients.
  • Actively contribute to multidisciplinary teams where pharmacy input is valued and supported.
  • Participate in clinical audit and quality improvement activities.
  • Contribute to pharmacy team meetings and service development.
  • Undertake postgraduate study as part of the Band 6 to 7 development pathway.
  • Support staff on rostering, including Saturday, bank holiday and on‑call duties.

Additional responsibilities for Band 7 include:

  • Maintain efficient and cost‑effective systems for procurement, compounding, preparation and distribution of medicinal products.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide professional advice to health‑care professionals regarding the safe and cost‑effective use of medicines.
  • Identify quality control mechanisms and address clinical risk issues.
  • Participate in supervisory duties with the Principal Pharmacist and senior clinicians.
  • Lead specialist clinical service to wards and departments in line with Trust policies.

Person Specification & Qualifications

  • Experience: Completed pre‑registration training; substantial post‑registration experience; experience in mental health pharmacy and hospital pharmacy; experience in providing medicines information.
  • Personal Attributes: Professional manner; adaptable; current driving licence.
  • Training: Diploma in clinical pharmacy (general, community or psychiatric).
  • Qualifications: GPhC registration; membership of CMHP and RPS; supplementary prescribing qualification.
  • Physical Attributes: Ability to undertake the duties and demands of the post; satisfactory sickness record over previous 2 years.
  • Special Knowledge & Skills: Strong communication skills; evidence of continuing professional development in line with GPhC; team player; supervising and directing junior staff; computer literate; specialist knowledge of mental‑health pharmacy; audit planning and delivery.

Salary

£39,959 to £56,515 per year (Band 6 – 7 development role).
