Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to oversee the in‑house payroll for approximately 250 staff within a charitable trust that operates a special needs school, college, children’s home and supported living house. The role involves managing payroll, pensions, reporting and data analytics while ensuring compliance with UK payroll legislation and supporting staff and students in the trust’s community.
Responsibilities
- HR designated responsibilities
- Direct staff communication
- Payroll monthly input process and reconciling procedures
- Payroll monthly reporting submissions for approval by HR and BACS finance payment approval
- Pensions administration
- Exception reporting/data analytics preparation
Oversee the in‑house administration of payroll for approximately 250 staff.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 200 employees payroll experience in an in‑house setting, preferably supervisory role
- Current CIPP level 4 certification (or working towards level 5); equivalent HR payroll or accountancy qualifications (AAT/ACCA) accepted
- Expert knowledge of UK payroll legislation and tax regulations
- Proficiency in payroll and HR software, Excel and Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication skills with patience and empathy, able to provide guidance and advice
- Strong analytical skills, able to collaborate with finance team on manual calculations and data reconciliation
Additional Information
Hours: 37.5 hours a week, 52 weeks a year (office-based, 08:30‑16:30 during term time with a half‑hour unpaid break; flexibility during school holidays). Own transport desirable due to rural location.
