Litigation Lawyer – Cambridge
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Litigation Lawyer to join our Legal Practice, a shared legal service supporting Cambridge City Council, South Cambridgeshire District Council, and Huntingdonshire District Council.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide practical, clear, and accurate legal advice to Council Officers within your areas of responsibility
- Take ownership of and manage litigation cases, as allocated by Principal or Senior Lawyers
- Conduct legal research and apply findings effectively
- Draft and adapt legal documents, precedents, and procedures, including those requiring original legal analysis
- Support Principal and Senior Lawyers on complex matters and wider service delivery
- Represent the Councils in County Court, High Court, and Tribunal proceedings, including preparing documentation and attending hearings

- You will play a key part in delivering a high-performing legal service by:
- Ensuring work meets quality standards and performance measures
- Maintaining effective time recording and contributing to income targets
- Providing efficient, cost-effective, and customer-focused legal services
- Contributing to the development of best practice, procedures, and precedents
Team Contribution & Development
- We are looking for a team player who will:
- Support or deliver training and guidance to colleagues across Legal Practice and partner services
- Actively contribute to team meetings, projects, and service improvements
- Collaborate across the partnership to enhance legal service delivery
About You: You will be:
- A qualified Lawyer with litigation experience (Solicitor, Barrister, or equivalent) or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives or demonstrate experience working at this level or is working towards SQE, BPTC/BVC or equivalent, or Cilex Professional, Advanced or Foundation Qualification. In the latter case it is a condition of any offer that the applicant complete qualification within an agreed, reasonable, timeframe from appointment).
- Confident managing cases and advising clients in a public or private sector context
- Skilled in drafting, advocacy, and legal analysis
- Organised, proactive, and committed to delivering excellent client service
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team

Hours: We currently have two vacancies available, both full-time hours at 37 per week. However, if you believe you have the skills and experience to join us and would like to discuss different working patterns, please do get in touch.
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £41,771 – £47,181 per annum City Pay Band 6, pro rata for part time.
Location: This is flexible with our office bases between Cambourne, Cambridge and Huntingdon as service need dictates but also you can balance this with working from home.
