Job Summary
Sets up and operates CNC machining centers to produce parts to customer specifications, including loading, running, modifying CNC programs, inputting simple programs, building fixtures, and performing routine maintenance. Duties also involve de-burring, cleaning parts, using hand tools, measuring dimensions, and maintaining a clean work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC machining centers for single parts and production runs.
- Load, run, and modify CNC programs; input simple programs at the operator panel.
- Build fixtures for production parts as necessary.
- Perform routine maintenance on machining centers.
- De-burr and clean parts according to customer specifications.
- Use band saws and hand tools such as hex wrenches, screwdrivers, and soft hammers.
- Change dull tooling and adjust machine offsets.
- Measure part dimensions using micrometers, gage pins, vernier calipers, drop indicators, comparators, thread gauges, and other precision tools; record measurements on the part traveler.
- Submit first‑article parts to QC and analyze inspection reports to adjust programs and setups.
- Maintain a clean work environment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; trade school or apprenticeship program preferred or minimum 2 years of experience in a metalworking CNC environment.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to draft work instructions using Microsoft Word.
- Mathematical skills: calculate machine offsets, angles, feeds, and speeds.
- Problem‑solving and reasoning ability, including complex fixturing problems.
Physical Demands
The employee is regularly required to talk or listen, stand, walk, and use hands; occasionally sit; lift up to 50 lb and 70 lb with assistance; close and distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are required.
Work Environment
Located in Lancaster, PA. The job involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, occasional vibration, and moderate noise levels.
