Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Machinist to support precision manufacturing of the aft section of our Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) systems. This role is critical to achieving the dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and safety standards required for propulsion hardware operating in extreme thermal, mechanical, and vibration environments. You will work closely with propulsion engineers, structures specialists, and test teams to machine critical aft‑end components such as nozzles, aft skirts, internal mounts, and interfaces with the motor case and actuators.

Responsibilities

  • Manufacture and finish nozzle components, aft skirts, reinforcement rings, actuator mounts, and interface hardware to extremely tight tolerances.
  • Operate, program, and maintain CNC and manual machining equipment used for high‑temperature alloys, composites, and metallic components.
  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership in the workshop, guiding proper setup, machining strategies, QA processes, and safe operations.
  • Review machining plans, tooling approaches, and work instructions for new aft‑end components or SRM design updates.
  • Perform inspections using and test‑fit procedures to validate compliance with engineering specifications.
  • Document manufacturing traceability, inspection reports, and non‑conformance investigations.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering to resolve geometric, tolerance‑stack, or manufacturability issues.

Requirements

  • Educational background in Manufacturing Engineering or relevant field
  • Between 5-10 years of experience in the high‑precision manufacturing environments
  • Strong competency in CNC programming, 5‑axis machining, lathe machining with live tooling, tool selection, and machining of high‑temperature metals.
  • Ability to work with large or complex propulsion components, including fixturing and precision handling.
  • Working understanding of GD&T, tight‑tolerance production, and inspection methods.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Competency with Siemens control
  • Competency with Hypermill
  • Competency with Siemens NX
