Science Apprenticeship – Asbestos L3
Location: Bedfordshire
Compensation: £21,157 – £24,784 / year
Expected Start Date: July 2026
Working hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 5pm
Annual leave: 25 days plus bank holidays

Key Responsibilities
As an Asbestos Analyst & Surveyor Apprentice, you’ll work on site, learning the roles through a structured training programme. You’ll support our experienced teams across a range of environments.
Asbestos Analysis
- Carry out air quality and reassurance monitoring
- Conduct fibre counting
- Perform four‑stage clearance inspections
- Undertake personal and compliance air testing
- Accurately complete certificates and reports
- Assist with asbestos removal project management
Asbestos Surveying
- Collect and label bulk material samples safely
- Undertake Management, Refurbishment, and Demolition Surveys
- Complete Priority Risk Assessments for clients
- Work across a range of property types (domestic, commercial, industrial)
- Ensure sample handling and data uploading follows company procedures
About You
You prefer being on site rather than behind a desk, are comfortable working in construction, demolition, or industrial settings, and enjoy the variety and purpose of hands‑on work. You take safety seriously, follow procedures strictly, stay calm in regulated environments, and work well independently and with a team. You are motivated to develop a long‑term career in environmental safety.
Apprenticeship Eligibility
- 18 years or over
- Not in full‑time education
- Lived in the UK for at least 3 years
- Have right to work in the UK
- Must hold a full UK manual driving licence with 3 points or fewer
- Must be 18+ due to the nature of the working environment
Training and Development
Over 12 months you’ll combine on‑the‑job experience with structured training delivered by tutors at Tiro. You’ll spend at least 6 hours per week on off‑the‑job training, including online sessions, practical activities, and assignments. You’ll work towards the RSPH Level 3 Award in Asbestos Air Monitoring and Clearance Procedures, and the programme may lead to RSCiTech recognition.
Future Opportunities
This apprenticeship leads to a career as an asbestos site technician, with prospects to progress to a surveyor or analyst role, and potentially becoming a Registered Science Technician.
